1. Whole wheat flour or Atta

One of the most common and healthy ingredients in Indian cuisine is wheat flour. It is extracted from wheat grains and is further processed and refined to regulate the high amounts of gluten.

2. Maida all-purpose flour or plain flour 

As the name indicates, is probably the most versatile flour used all across the world. It is commonly used in several ways, from cakes to white bread, pasta sauce, and several others. 

​

3. Gram flour- Besan 

It is one of the most common flours in India. Besan is essentially chickpea flour. Some of the vital aspects of the flour are its nutty taste, the earthy smell, and it is also rich in protein content. 

​

4. Rice flour

As the name indicates, it is derived from rice. It is one of the staple flours used in south Indian cuisine and is loaded with fibers, carbohydrates, proteins, and several other minerals like copper, thiamin, magnesium, and several others. Its nutritional components along with being gluten-free make it a great alternative for traditional flour.

5. Maize flour

Also known as Makkai ka atta is made from dried corn and is yellow in color. It is a nutrient-rich flour loaded with fibers, carbohydrates, proteins, and minerals like phosphorus and magnesium. 

​

6. Semolina or Sooji– the cream of wheat (both coarse and fine)

It is extracted from wheat flour. It is high in gluten, and it is also loaded with magnesium, folate, crabs, fiber, and proteins. It is good for heart health and helps maintain blood sugar levels. 

​

7.Ragi or nachni flour – finger millet flour

This floor contains a good load of nutrition, and it is also fortified with Magnesium, Carbohydrates, Potassium, Zinc, Iron, and Calcium. With its incredibly low glycemic index, it helps regulate blood sugar levels.

​

8. Bajra – pearl millet flour

Derived from ground Pearl millet, it is a seasonal Winter favorite across India. 

​

9. Jowar flour – white millet flour or sorghum flour 

It is enriched with the goodness of thiamine, vitamin B12, Zinc, Vitamin A, iron, and folate. Its high fiber content makes it good for diabetes and helps in improving digestion.
